Welcome to the Cecchetti Society Trust Newsletter

The Trust has been delighted to support two Awards events for young Cecchetti dancers in December 2023 and we report on these below. This support will continue in the new year with the Trust providing bursaries for students selected to represent the ISTD Cecchetti Classical Ballet Faculty at the Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Competition 2024 in Michigan, USA in July. The selection event takes place on 11th February.

Support for teachers is also a key objective for the Trust and we are now inviting applications for Teachers Study Bursaries 2024. Bursaries are for all levels of study to support continuing professional development.

Trustees send Seasons Greetings and warmly thank all those who have supported our events and donated to the Trust in 2023. We wish everyone a happy and peaceful festive season and look forward to your continued support in 2024.

Cecchetti International Classical Ballet (CICB) Competition 2024
Student Selection -11th February 2024

The Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Competition takes place in Holland, Michigan, USA from the 21st - 27th July 2024, hosted by the Cecchetti Council of America (CCA). Students and teachers from CICB Cecchetti Societies around the world come together to take part in this prestigious event. Further details about the competition can be found at CICB Competition 2024

The selection of students to represent the ISTD Cecchetti Classical Ballet Faculty takes place on 11th February 2024 at Elmhurst Ballet School - in person for students based in the UK and through online application for those outside the UK. The Trust is providing a number of bursaries for selected students. Applications are now open and further information can be found on the link below. The closing date for applications is 10th January 2024.

Teachers Study Bursaries 2024

The Cecchetti Society Trust has a range of bursaries given annually to support teachers in their study of the Cecchetti Method of classical ballet. So if you are making a New Year resolution to further your professional development in 2024 with a course of study, attendance at a summer school, or through taking an examination, a bursary could help you achieve this aim. Applications are open to those studying ISTD Cecchetti in the UK and Internationally.

Information about the bursaries that the Trust will offer in 2024, eligibility details and application forms can be found using the link below. Applications must be received by 1st March 2024.

Vocational Classical Ballet Awards 2023/24

The Cecchetti Society Trust Vocational Awards 2023/24 took place on Sunday 3rd December at Elmhurst Ballet School, Birmingham. Elisabeth Swan, Chair of the Trust warmly welcomed competitors and their teachers, guests and audience members to the awards.

All competitors participated in an adjudicated ballet class onstage. Those entering the Barbara Geoghegan Award also performed a classical solo. The onstage classes were taught by Susan Lucas FISTD, former Soloist Birmingham Royal Ballet and were accompanied by Jonnie Gait.

The Adjudicators were Rachel Hester, former First Artist Birmingham Royal Ballet and Lachlan Monaghan, Principal Dancer Birmingham Royal Ballet, who gave their invaluable advice and generous encouragement to the young dancers through their adjudication.

Cecchetti Malta Awards 2023

The ISTD Cecchetti Classical Ballet Faculty Malta Awards, supported by the Trust, took place on 3rd December 2023 at the Dance Workshop, Pieta. 81 students took part in the 3 levels of the Awards. Pictured is Ms Lusymay Di Stefano, ex principal dancer, La Scala di Milano with Miss Tanya Bayona and the Tanya Bayona Senior Award participating students. The Winner was No. 2 Yasmine Pullinico, a pupil of Nicola Fenech and Runner Up was No. 4 Claudia Santamaria Soriano, a pupil of Brigitte Gauci Borda. Award classes were taught by Nina Winter and accompanied by Maria Elena Farrugia. The event was organised by Theresa Lungaro-Mifsud and a team of dedicated volunteer teachers.
